Where to start

Gel polish needs three things: a base coat, a colour and a top coat. The base coat bonds to the nail plate and protects it from pigment, the coloured polish gives the shade, and the top coat locks in the result and adds shine. Each layer is cured in a UV or LED lamp. If you are starting from scratch, the easiest option is a gel polish kit, which already contains everything you need for your first manicure.

Base coats and top coats

Rubber bases are flexible, so they move with the natural nail and last longer. Camouflage cover bases even out the tone of the nail straight away, so you can do a French manicure without a separate white layer. Top coats come in glossy, matte and effect finishes: shimmer, cat eye or velvet.

Colours: 7 ml and 15 ml

7 ml bottles suit home use and less common shades, and they make up most of the range. 15 ml bottles are better value for nail technicians who use the same colour every day. You can filter colours by nine families and by effect: glitter, neon or pearl.

How long it lasts

With proper nail prep and thin layers, gel polish lasts 2–3 weeks. Longevity depends less on the polish itself than on the preparation: dehydrating the nail, removing the cuticles and sealing the free edge.

Frequently asked questions

Kiek laikosi gelinis lakas?
