How to choose a beauty treatment chair

A beauty treatment chair is the foundation of your workstation: it affects both your client's comfort during a long treatment and your own back. Three things matter most when choosing – the adjustment method, the number of motors and the load capacity.

Electric or hydraulic

Hydraulic chairs are adjusted with a foot pump; they are cheaper and simpler – a good fit if you carry out a few treatments a day and rarely need to change position. Electric chairs are controlled by a foot pedal or a remote and let you change position without taking your hands off the client, which makes them more convenient for intensive everyday work.

Number of motors

A single motor raises and lowers the chair. Three motors control the height, backrest and leg section separately – this is the standard for cosmetology. Four or five motors add seat tilt and the Trendelenburg position, which is needed for specific treatments.

What not to forget

Check the maximum load (usually 120–200 kg) and the minimum and maximum height – if you work seated, the chair must go low enough. Pay attention to the upholstery: faux leather must withstand disinfection with alcohol-based solutions, otherwise it will crack after a few months.
